Under the Hood: God’s Attributes, and Faith Breakthroughs

If you have read any of “Walls,” you know that the entire culture and mission of Bannockburn Baptist Church (where I am Pastor) is built around the idea of Faith Breakthroughs.  By that, I mean that everything we do is done with the idea of growing in our relationship with Jesus, and reflecting His image in home life, and every other area of life for that matter.

The foundational reason that God created the family, I believe, was so that we would have a place to reflect His image and attributes.  So my most important job as a pastor is to help people know God better.  And that is also the most important thing I can do to help connect church and home!  Depending on what list you look at, there are varying numbers of God’s attributes.  For the sake of clarity, we have categorized God’s nature into eight specific categories.  And because Satan’s number one goal is to tarnish the image of God and draw us to something – or someone – else to worship, it would stand to reason that the walls we face would fall into eight corresponding categories.

To see how these work, check out the following: Attributes and Walls

To see a diagram of how these attributes lead to our eight primary Breakthroughs at Bannockburn, Breakthroughs Game Board 2011

The bottom line is this: everyone I know needs to understand who God is.  In fact (as I outlined in Chapter 11 of Walls), the most important question we will ever answer is, “Who is God?”.  Therefore, our goal as a church is to help eliminate every barrier to intimacy with God.

I am confused with your website. I took my evaluation and it said that there were Bible Study links on your page that I could access, but I can’t find them.

      Teresa,

Sorry for the confusion! There should have been some specific links mentioned in your assessment following your 24 question evaluation. If it wasn’t clear, I apologize. A couple of suggestions: blueletterbible.com has a great resource (use the “search the Bible” resource on the right hand side, and the “Our God is… We Are” page found at http://www.blueletterbible.org/study/misc/ogiwa.cfm.

Biblegateway.com offers a wonderful online topical BIble that’s easy to use as well.

We intentionally didn’t try to “reinvent the wheel” regarding Bible Study materials, and we didn’t want to hand you all the promises. There is something profoundly important about discovering these promises on your own, and recognizing them to be from the Lord to you. Let me us know if you run into any trouble, and God bless your journey!
